The UCLA Teaching Enhancement Center (in the Office of Instructional
Development) is publishing on its web site online tips and tutorials that help
instructors use technologies commonly used in instruction. The TEC has written
an article
on podcasting , that describes what podcasting is and how to use it,
including helpful screenshots and information on how to subscribe using tools
like iTunes. An article that focuses on implications for instruction and
creating podcasts is forthcoming (the TLtC will keep you posted).
UCLA has
also launched a webcast initiative to broadcast courses online. An example of a
course that is being offered as both a webcast and podcast is Professor John
Zaller's Political
Science course .
The TEC has also created Flash
demonstrations of its pilot implementation of the Sakai collaboration and
learning environment. You've heard a lot about it and these demos finally give
you a peek at what Sakai actually looks like. Keep in mind that Sakai is
customizable and that UCLA did not include all of the tools and features
available in its local implementation; to see a list of all features and tools,
visit the Sakai
project web site .
